Air Source Heat Pump Systems for Property Block
The Brief
We were contacted by the property management company of a block of 44 existing dwellings, who were completing a refurbishment of the building.
The dwellings were poorly insulated and used direct electric heating and direct electric hot water. This was proving to be expensive to run. Therefore, they were looking for a more cost-effective solution.
As part of the refurbishment, the contractor was re-insulating the building and fitted double-glazing. The team at Meridian Cooling were asked to design and install an Air Source Heat Pump system for each property.

Service Provided
We designed and installed unique air source heat pump units and systems for each property.
These systems were designed to produce space heating via radiators and/or underfloor heating and hot water, all the while keeping running costs low and improving the energy efficiency of the houses.
We worked closely with the property manager and contractor to ensure our systems fit the space and provided the right heating and cooling levels.
In collaborating with the property manager and contractor, we were also able to ensure a smooth installation process, gaining access to each property when needed while not getting in the way of any other work being undertaken.

How Does An Air Source Heat Pump Work?
As the name might suggest, an air source heat pump utilises the air from outdoors to heat radiators and water.
The liquid in the system takes the heat from the outdoor air and turns it into a hot gas, which is carried into the property. This is where the warmth comes from.
During summer months, they are also able to reverse the process, taking the heat from the inside and pushing it outdoors, reducing the temperature within the property.
Why Use Air Source Heat Pumps?
Air source heat pumps were chosen over traditional heating systems primarily for their energy efficiency. Because they transfer heat from the outdoor air rather than generating heat through combustion, they use significantly less energy.
In using less energy, these systems also reduce the cost of energy bills, saving residents money on utility bills.
Finally, these systems are environmentally friendly, as they produce lower carbon emissions and don't rely on fossil fuels to heat space and water.
The End Result
The result was 44 properties fitted with unique air source heat pump systems that will heat their spaces efficiently and cost-effectively.
In combination with the refurbishments, including new insulation and double-glazing, this will reduce energy consumption in each property and their energy bills.
The property manager was happy with the solution.
